Better read a science book instead of praying to your god to fix a problem that is intrinsic to the world that you believe the same god created as perfect.
"Thank god I'm alive" - after you've just had a succesful brain surgery. "Praise the lord" - after your kid was healed of leucemia, in a hospital. "Thank you god" - after a helicopter saved you from the icy seas after your boat crashed.
